Structural System Geometry ThinkeringSpace environmental structures are being developed as a system based, platform product that can be configured according to requirements determined by the library location. While layout configurations and dimensions of the overall system are highly flexible, relationships between parts, connect-ability and structural performance criteria are constrained. Prototyping models will be based on a single 10 x 10 square structural frame. Prototypes will focus primarily on exploring user interactions and behaviors within ThinkeringSpace. As new components are developed, the dimensional system will be used as a guide to maximize interchangeability of components and to take advantage of economies derived from making multiple, standardized components. |

Floor Grid The floor layout is based on 1 by 1 grid that determines the positon of the frame posts and ancillary elements. A 10 x 10 frame is shown below. |
The developmental prototype situated at the Institute of Design is based on a 10 square frame with 4 extension supports for table surfaces. |

Modules ThinkeringSpace configurations will be based on combinations of modules that fit the available library space and provide the requisite functionality. The design of each installation will be the result of a collaboration with library personnel to establish environment, technology, content and protocol intent. In some cases, installations may be distributed in the library space rather than being centralized. |
Configurations Configuration, location and scale will vary from library to library depending on program intent, available space and adjacency issues. Activities will shape functional and technological affordances; protocols will determine issues of operation and use. Configurational archetypes are diagrammed below. Each is derived from combinations of two or more basic square and/or rectangular modules. |

Elevation The side elevation of the frame is divided into 6 inch increments that provide a guide for the vertical placement of various elements such as table surfaces, displays, and structural beams. |
