Symposium 1:Growing a Community of Design Practice based on design research, methods, user studies and collaborationWednesday - Thursday, May 28-29 Presented by the Institute of Design. We are inviting international faculty, practitioners and others interested in forward-looking design education and practice based on advanced and coordinated study. This highly interactive, two-day symposium entertains four simultaneous themes on both days. There are no formal speakers. The event will develop from brief, informational presentations and conversation on the following themes: 1) Research within a design-action focus 2) Methods including found, adapted, needed & new 3) User Studies to humanize technology and foster innovation 4) Collaboration across disciplines and national boundaries The 2-day event concludes with a synthesis of each theme in terms of critical ideas and action items. A follow-up publication of the event, its brief presentations and outcomes will appear in the journal Visible Language. It will be distributed to all symposium participants. Contact Professor Sharon Poggenpohl for more information. Symposium 2:Preparing for the Future of Knowledge PresentationFriday - Saturday, May 30-31 Presented by the Institute of Design in collaboration with the International Institute for Information Design (IIID) as the First Expert Forum for Knowledge Representation.
