ABSTRACT

Deconstructing Design

"In deconstruction... there is no meaning to be found in the actual text, but only in the various...'virtual texts' constructed by [researchers] in their search for meaning"

As researchers and designers we are solving more complex challenges for more stakeholders in more contexts. The very face of the problem is wider, yet to find essential truths leading to a holistic solution requires deep investigation. Innovation is not from the obvious, the actual text — rather it stems from our ability to effectively construct "virtual texts" which not only serve as the foundation or framework for discovery but also become the shared language between design teams, their clients and ultimately, those for whom we design.
