Overview
You are invited to a program on October 26th, 2005 with Michael Bierut, Bruce Nussbaum, Michael Roberts and me that addresses the "creative corporation" and the adoption of design by business leaders.
We all know that reliable methods of innovation are becoming important to business as they realize that 96% of all innovation attempts fail to meet their financial goals. Business leaders are increasingly looking to design to not just help, but lead their innovation processes. To meet this challenge, there needs to be an increase both in business leaders' expectations of design and in designers' abilities to link the creation of user value to the creation of economic value.
The program will consist of short presentations, a discussion including you and other participants and a reception with the panelists. Participation will be limited to 80 people and will include designers and managers from other roles in business who want to identify ways that design can be used more strategically than it normally is.

Michael Bierut
|
Michael is a partner at Pentagram, where he is responsible for leading identity design, environmental graphic design and editorial design solutions. He has won hundreds of design awards and his work is represented in several permanent collections. In 1989, Michael was elected to the Alliance Graphique Internationale, and in 2003 he was named to the Art Directors Club Hall of Fame. Michael is a senior critic in graphic designs at the Yale School of Art and is a co-editor of the anthology series Looking Closer: Critical Writings on Graphic Design, and a co-founder of the online journal Design Observer. His commentaries about graphic design in everyday life can be heard nationally on the Public Radio International program "Studio 360."

Bruce Nussbaum
Bruce Nussbaum is BusinessWeek's editorial page editor. He writes frequently on design for the magazine, and analyzes the annual Industrial Designers Excellence Awards and the BusinessWeek / Architectural Record AIA Awards for the magazine. He also edits the weekly Economic Viewpoint column and writes essays and commentaries for the magazine. Nussbaum is widely credited with being the leading business writer in bringing design to the world of management. He is currently developing the on-line Innovation & Design channel for BusinessWeek.com.

Mike Roberts
Mike Roberts is the Client Experience Manager for JPMorgan Chase Treasury
Services where he and his team are responsible for the interface design and
content for all web-based cash management products. Mike founded the team a
year ago, the first in the Wholesale Bank (business to business),
integrating an iterative, client-centric, prototype-based design approach
into what had largely been a technology-driven culture. Mike is also a
member of the corporate Client Experience Management steering committee,
ensuring that design best practices a followed among the disparate teams
across the organization.

Patrick Whitney
Patrick Whitney is the director of the Institute of Design, Illinois Institute of Technology, and is the Steelcase/Robert C. Pew Professor of Design. He has published and lectured throughout the world about how to make technological innovations more humane, the link between design and business strategy, and methods of designing interactive communications and products, and has consulted and conducted executive programs for numerous corporations, including Aetna, Texas Instruments, McDonald’s, and Zebra Technologies.
