personal statement
How many times has the fresh perspective of research been lost in translation to the final design? Though I take any excuse to build in the shop or draw up a surprising diagram, my singular talent is transforming the surprises of research into clear principles that illuminate opportunities for design. I've been asking since my anthropology studies at the University of Chicago: “this ethnography is great, but how can it be used?” I charted the findings of research to find design direction at ID, and I will continue to guide design with clear principles from research.
project 2: In-Flight Medical Care Station for Boeing
In response to aging global travelers, my team explored medical response on long flights. When we learned from expert users that the greatest difficulty is moving unresponsive patients, we designed an ambulance the size of a beverage cart that navigates the aisles and docks throughout the plane.

project 3: Building a Prototyping Culture for the Institute of Design
With professors Marty Thaler and Anijo Mathew, I worked to develop a new course to teach prototyping methods. Drawing from interviews with ID students and practicing professionals, we discovered behaviors and beliefs that promote early building and distilled clear principles to foster a healthy culture of prototyping.
