Eli Blevis' interests include formalizing notions of style and effect in creative design processes. Prior to joining the faculty at the Institute of Design, Professor Blevis was a research faculty assistant professor at the Institute for the Learning Sciences (ILS) at Northwestern University. At ILS, he worked on social simulations that involved believable interactive characters and curriculum development tools. He has published in Interface, the Journal of the Learning Sciences, The International Journal of Expert Systems, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, MIT Press, AAAI, CMA, Gessellschaft fur Mathematik und Datenverarbeitung, and others. He has designed, advised on, and implemented numerous software and technology solutions. These include human resource management software for Hallmark Cards, Inc., management training software for Andersen Consulting, sales training software for Ameritech Publishing, Inc., depreciation analysis expert systems software for Bell Canada, software development tools for Queen's University and Northwestern University, intelligent legal data base communications software for QL Systems and Westlaw.
