observation of real users
The issue
Although the garage’s main function is to protect
the car, from observation we saw that people
also store very different things in the garage for
various periods of time. And usually when more
space is needed the car is left outside.

The solution
The new design proposes that the garage
space can be extended temporary for various
storage needs. Also the feature can be useful
for other activities that take place in the
garage (ex: workshop, garage parties)

The shape was selected
to best match with the
function of the door and
to suggest the location of
the inside modules. Also
the frame, usually hidden
in the exterior of the garage,
becomes an important visual
element of the design visible
from the exterior.
