The Newberry Academy is a public school in the Old Town neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. In spring of 1996, one of our fifth grade classes participated in a writing apprenticeship pilot project called the Writing Exchange. Each fifth grader was paired with an excellent student at Von Steuben High School, a Chicago public school on the far north side of the city. Writing apprentices and mentors used e-mail to become acquainted and to share writing. This cyberzine is the result of some of the Newberry student's writing.
